Hinge is the dating app designed to be deleted. Our company is on a mission to create a less lonely world by inspiring intimate, in-person connections. 

We want every dater’s experience on Hinge to be positive, no matter where they are in their journey. That’s why we’ve created these Community Guidelines: to make it clear what kind of behavior we believe helps foster a respectful, safe, and welcoming environment.

In alignment with our values of authenticity, courage, and empathy, we’ll do our part to uphold these rules and expect the same from our community members.

Hinge's Rules:

  1. \n You must be 18 years of age or older to use Hinge. We take this seriously, and any account found to belong to someone under 18 will be removed. This also means we don’t allow any photos or videos depicting minors, including younger photos of users.

  2. \n Be yourself. Hinge is built for real people looking for real connection. That means showing up authentically and with clear intentions. Daters must have one photo that clearly shows their face, and each account must only belong to one dater.  Deceiving others about your age or posting misleading or outdated photos is misaligned with our values of honesty and authenticity and is unfair to the Hinge community.

    \n Keep interactions respectful.\n Empathy is one of our core values, and we expect all users to treat\n each\n other with dignity and respect. We encourage Hinge daters to respect\n the opinions of others, even when they don't agree with them, and\n simply\n skip or remove users they aren't interested in. We prohibit harassment\n (including sexual harassment), bullying, or intimidation, including\n repeated,\n unwanted contact either online or offline. If someone unmatches you\n on\n Hinge, the next step is to respect their choice, not find them on\n social\n media.\n Learn more\n

    • \n Crude or offensive remarks, including body shaming, comments\n about trauma or mental health, or other sensitive, highly\n personal\n topics\n
      • \n
    • \n Sharing unsolicited, sexually explicit messages in chat or\n when\n leaving a comment on a Prompt, Video, or Photo\n
      • \n
    • \n Using phrases that objectify, stereotype, or fetishize another\n dater based on their identity\n
      • \n
    • \n Unwanted or repeated outreach after a dater has unmatched,\n blocked,\n or otherwise attempted to cease contact\n

    \n Lead with Respect.\n We value the diversity of our community and want every dater to feel\n safe, seen, and supported. People are encouraged to share their values\n and beliefs on Hinge, but we prohibit slurs, harmful stereotypes,\n exclusionary\n language, and hate-based ideologies. This includes discrimination\n against\n individuals or groups based on race or ethnicity, nationality, religion,\n gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, and disability (visible\n or invisible). Reporting another user based on any of these characteristics\n is\n not appropriate.\n Learn more\n

    • \n Sending messages that use identity-based slurs, misgendering,\n or making otherwise harmful comments directly toward other\n daters\n

    • \n Sharing content, phrases, or imagery associated with known\n hate\n groups, or promoting ideals or values of those groups\n

    \n Help us maintain a safe environment.\n Dater safety is a top priority. Meaningful connections happen best\n when\n people feel safe to show up as their full selves. We don't allow\n threats,\n intimidation, or any behavior that suggests, incites, or causes harm\n toward another person—either online or offline.\n Learn more\n

    \n Prohibited behavior includes, but is not limited to:\n

      \n
    • \n Showing support for designated or known terrorist groups\n through\n affirmative acknowledgment of their activities, crimes, publications,\n or ideologies, or through the use of symbols, images, or\n language\n
      • \n
    • \n Expressing affiliation or solidarity with known hate groups,\n terrorist groups, or criminal organizations either explicitly\n or implicitly through the use of Photos or Prompt answers\n
      • \n
    • \n Sending threatening messages to members of Hinge staff through\n email, social media, or any other outreach outside of typical\n company support channels\n
      • \n
    \n

    \n We encourage anyone who has a concerning encounter or feels unsafe,\n either on the app or on a date, to report it to us.\n

    \n Violent or graphic content isn't allowed.\n There is no place on Hinge for content that shows or celebrates violence,\n abuse, cruelty, or death in any form.\n Learn more\n

    • Images or videos depicting violence, gore, or injuries
      • \n
    • \n Cruel, demeaning, or otherwise graphic images of harmed animals,\n such as hunting kills demonstrating excessive gore\n

    • \n Graphic depictions of gore, mutilation, wounds, organs, and\n medical\n procedures\n
      • \n
    • Content that depicts or glorifies self-harm
      • \n
    \n

    \n Respect Boundaries.\n We encourage boldness and authenticity, but not at the expense of\n someone\n else's comfort. Posting content to your profile or initiating a conversation\n that is crude, lewd, or potentially offensive is not acceptable behavior.\n Hinge daters should not promote physical, emotional, or psychological\n abuse on or off the platform. This includes unwanted sexual advances,\n comments, or imagery. We don't allow nudity or sexually graphic content\n on profiles.\n Learn more\n

    • \n Photos or videos showing exposed genitals or explicit outlines\n of these areas\n
      • \n
    • \n Any depictions of sexual activity, whether real or AI-generated,\n including simulated acts or masturbation\n

    • \n Overtly vulgar or obscene language regarding sexual fantasies,\n scenarios, or acts\n
      • \n
    • \n Messaging that pressures a dater into sexual conversations\n without\n their clear consent\n

    \n Understand Consent is critical.\n Hinge is a space for people to find meaningful relationships built\n on\n a foundation of authenticity, transparency, and respect. Consent\n should\n be clearly and freely communicated and can be expressly granted and\n revoked.\n We do not tolerate sexual coercion, exploitation, or any other non-consensual\n sexual behavior or contact on our platform. We encourage our community\n to uphold these same standards in all interactions.\n Learn more\n

    \n Some examples of non-consensual sexual behavior include:\n

    • \n Making unwanted sexual contact or attempting to touch or\n kiss\n someone without consent\n
      • \n
    • Trying to undress someone against their will
      • \n
    • \n Removing or tampering with a condom or other protective barrier\n during sex without the other person's agreement (\"stealthing\")\n
      • \n
    • \n Any act of non-consensual sexual activity, penetration or\n attempted\n penetration, such as rape or forced oral sex, including when\n someone is pressured or coerced, under the influence of substances,\n asleep, or otherwise incapacitated and therefore unable to\n give\n consent\n

    • Facilitating the sale of counterfeit goods

    • Any activity related to human trafficking

    \n We're here for connection, not commerce.\n We don't allow promotional content or activity, and we prohibit using\n Hinge to promote, advertise, or sell products, services, or events.\n Hinge\n is not a place to promote or pursue arrangements that involve payment\n or compensation of any kind, whether online or offline.\n Learn more\n

    • Promoting any product, brand, service, event, or investment
      • \n
    • \n Sharing links to donation pages, crowdfunding campaigns,\n wishlists,\n or business pages in prompts or private messages\n

    • \n Adding links or usernames to money transfer apps, or other\n financial\n account information, within profiles or prompts\n
      • \n
    • \n Offering or requesting compensation in exchange for romantic\n or sexual interaction, including but not limited to findom\n or\n sugar dating\n
      • \n
    • \n Soliciting donations or support for political campaigns,\n charities,\n or causes\n
      • \n
    • \n Seeking employment opportunities or recruiting candidates\n for\n professional purposes\n
      • \n
    • \n Recruiting beta testers, users, clients, or potential customers\n
      • \n
    • \n Unsolicited promotion of your social media or personal ventures\n
      • \n
    • Promoting gambling services or betting
      • \n
    • \n High-volume, unsolicited promotion of websites or social\n media\n channels (i.e. spamming other users)\n

    \n Date with genuine intentions.\n Hinge is a place for intentional dating, not manipulation or coercion.\n We don't allow scams, impersonation, or any kind of manipulation\n for\n personal or financial gain.\n Learn more\n

    • \n Any attempt to deceive daters into providing money, gifts,\n or\n items of value, including dishonest requests for \"travel\n funds\"\n to meet in person\n

    • \n Threatening to reveal intimate messages, photos, or personal\n information to force someone to do something or give up something\n of value\n
      • \n
    • \n Falsifying facts about yourself or deliberately misleading\n others\n for personal or monetary gain\n

  12. \n Be a good Hinge user.\n Use Hinge the way it’s designed: to connect with intention, not manipulate\n or game the system. Keep your interactions honest: false information,\n fake\n profiles, and misuse of our reporting tools are not allowed.  If\n you\n interact with our support teams, treat them with the same respect you\n would\n any other member of the Hinge community.

Reporting

If you see content or behavior that goes against our Community Guidelines, you can report it directly through the app by tapping the three dots on a profile or message. 

If you've experienced harm as a member of the Hinge community, we encourage you to inform us by submitting a report. Reports are confidential and allow us to review and take any necessary action to prioritize user safety.   We aren’t here to make decisions on what is fact or fiction, but we will take necessary steps to protect the integrity of the Hinge community.  Our team carefully reviews reports to help keep Hinge safer, more respectful, and aligned with our mission to foster meaningful connections. We will never share your identity with the people you’ve reported, unless required by law.  We also do not disclose account details to anyone but the account owner.

Appeals

If you violate these Community Guidelines or our Terms, your content may be removed, and your account may be permanently banned. We take these actions to help protect the safety and integrity of the Hinge community. 

If you believe your account has been removed in error, you have the opportunity to submit an appeal through our designated appeals process. Read more here.
