What is Top Photo?

We’ve learned from daters that someone's first profile photo is crucial to making a good first impression and matching with them. As a result, we’re introducing Top Photo, to help you optimize your profile. If you turn on Top Photo, we will continuously test your profile pictures, and put the most popular one first.

How Does Top Photo Work?

Top Photo uses a machine learning model to predict which of your profile photos is most likely to get you a Like, and puts that photo first on your profile to help improve your chances of making a match. When you use Top Photo, the public and Match list order of your photos and videos may be different from the order you see in the Edit and View Profile sections. Top Photo will continue to test and reorder your photos when your account is paused.

Top Photo only uses photos that you add to your profile, so remember that any photos you upload must follow our Terms and Member Principles.

Top Photo does not collect, store, access or otherwise process your facial geometry or biometric data.

How Do I Use Top Photo?

If you would like to give Top Photo a try, here’s how:

Within the Hinge app, tap your Photo icon on the far right of your navigation bar
Tap the Pencil icon
Tap the Top Photo toggle the switch over so the button is purple
Opt out of Top Photo at any time by simply switching the button back to gray.

On an Android device, any change to the Top Photo toggle automatically saves. iOS users will need to tap “Done” at the top right of the Edit Profile to save changes to the Top Photo toggle.
