What is Hidden Words?

What is Hidden Words? 

Hidden Words is a feature that offers more control over the words, phrases and emojis daters see in their incoming Likes with Comments. We believe that having the ability to filter certain comments can detour negative interactions before they start, creating a safer and more positive experience on the app.

How does Hidden Words work? 

Your Hidden Words list is entirely customized by you. If another person sends you a Like with Comment that includes content from your personal list, there will be no notification shown for that like or comment. 

To add a word, phrase, or emoji to your Hidden Words list, follow these steps: 

1. Tap on Settings > Safety > Hidden Words
2. Input the words you do not want to see in comments 

Your Hidden Words entries can be added, updated, or removed at any time. 

What happens if I receive a Like with a comment that contains one of my Hidden Words?

If someone sends you a comment containing one of your Hidden Words, their profile will only appear in your Hidden Likes category  with the note “Comment Hidden.” If you choose to click into that person’s profile, you will see their full comment. You may then choose to match, skip, or report that profile. 

If you don’t want to view the comments from your hidden likes, you can delete these profiles without ever reading them.

If you ever need to report a message as being inappropriate, we may ask you then if you’d also like to add to your Hidden Words list.

Will comments that I have already received be impacted by Hidden Words?  

No. Hidden Words will only apply to new comments moving forward. Prior comments will not be impacted.

Will the sender know their comment was hidden? 

No. The sender will not be informed that their comment was blocked by your Hidden Words list. You simply won’t be notified.

Do I have to create a Hidden Words list?

Our goal is to support daters by making sure they’re aware of the safety features that are available to them. Using Hidden Words is completely optional, but we want you to know it’s there throughout the evolution of your dating journey.
