Sharing your gender info
Everyone who wants to find love should be able to. That’s why we’re determined to create an inclusive dating experience. We hope that the option to specifically share your gender on the app will empower you to fully show up as yourself and find your person.

How did Hinge decide on these updates?
With support from GLAAD, Hinge continues to develop an authentic, empowering, and positively impactful experience for the LGBTQ+ community on Hinge. This is especially important for non-binary people who are often disappointed and disheartened by apps that aren’t affirming of their identity. We will continue sourcing feedback from our LGBTQ+ users and exploring ways to enhance the Hinge experience for everyone.
Why are there now three genders?
While we're not always perfect, we're always investing in being a better dating destination for LGBTQ+ daters. Our latest update recognizes that gender is a spectrum. If “Man” or “Woman” doesn’t align with your gender, you now have the option to choose “Non-binary.” And because gender is unique to everyone, you can customize how yours is shown to others. For example:
- You can select “Non-binary,” and set your profile to specifically say “Genderqueer” or “Agender.”
- You can select “Man,” but might choose to display “Trans masc.”
Why Non-binary?
The idea that there are only two genders (man and woman) is often called the “gender binary.” While Non-binary is not the only term to describe genders that don't fall into either category, it is the predominant one. The app allows you to further describe your gender by clicking “More.”
How does Hinge use information about my gender?
Your gender teaches us more about you and who to introduce you to. You control how others see it, and can update it at any time.
How do I add my gender to my profile?
You can edit your gender anytime in the “My vitals” section within your Profile. Check out this article for a closer look.
How is my gender displayed on my profile?
After selecting "Man," "Woman," or "Non-binary," you have the option to customize how your gender will be displayed to others on your profile. Begin typing, and you'll see some options pop up below.
Can I choose who I see in the app based on gender?
The newly added gender features allow users to share people of the genders they would like to connect with people who identify as a man, woman, or non-binary person. Select all genders that you wish to be matched with.
Can I set who sees me in the app based on my gender?
We want you to be in control of how you identify and share your gender. That’s why instead of asking “What’s your gender?” we ask you, "Show me to people looking for." You can select who you want to see you in the app. Check out this article for a closer look on how to do it.
Can I choose whether my gender is visible to others?
Yes, you’ll always have the option to choose if and how your gender appears on your profile. This makes space for you to express who you are without forcing you to share any information if you aren’t comfortable doing so.
Do I have to select a gender?
While it’s required to select a gender, we only use it to know who to show your profile to. If you choose not to display your gender, you can tap the toggle so that it says, "Hidden."
What if I have feedback?
We're always evolving how we can make our Hinge community more inclusive to accurately represent and connect our users. You’re always invited to send us a message to let us know your thoughts.
