At Hinge, we strive to create a positive, respectful environment for all daters. This means being thoughtful and transparent about our Community Guidelines, our Terms of Use (“Terms”), and how we handle prohibited content or behavior on the platform.
Notifications about Prohibited Behavior
In some cases, a dater might not realize their message violated our Terms or Community Guidelines. We believe daters deserve a chance to learn and adjust. That's why, for certain types of on-platform violations, including but not limited to inappropriate comments in conversations, we may issue warnings rather than immediately removing accounts.
Why am I receiving a warning about my messages?
If you receive a warning, it means language in one of your conversations went against our Terms or Community Guidelines. Sometimes words can come across differently than intended, so along with the warning, we'll share a few tips to help you communicate more respectfully with your connections on Hinge.
You'll need to acknowledge the warning to use Hinge as normal. While your account will remain active if you do not acknowledge your warning, you will not be able to take certain actions until you do so,such as sending likes or messages, or editing your profile or preferences.
If similar behavior continues, you may receive additional consequences up to and including removal from Hinge.
What kinds of behavior can lead to a warning?
Empathy is one of our core values, and we expect all users to treat each other with dignity and respect. We don’t tolerate any form of disrespect or harassment on Hinge, and we will take action to help ensure daters feel protected, respected, and safe on our platform.
This means that Hinge reserves the right to take action when we determine that a dater’s content or behavior violates our Terms or Community Guidelines. If we find that a violation is best addressed through education and a reminder of our applicable Terms and Community Guidelines, we may issue a warning rather than remove the violating dater’s account from the platform outright.

Please note: there may be instances in which we cannot share information regarding the specific content or behavior that resulted in the warning. Keeping certain information private helps protect the confidentiality of those who report violations.
Notifications about Prohibited Content on Profiles
Sometimes a specific piece of content may violate our Terms or Community Guidelines, even if the rest of a profile doesn’t. In many cases, we remove profile content (such as photos, videos, or prompt responses) that violates our Terms or Community Guidelines, without removing the profile entirely.
Additionally, some other sections of dater profiles, such as name and job title, allow daters to freewrite responses rather than select from a pre-defined menu of options. When freewritten content goes against our Terms or Community Guidelines, we may send a notification asking the user to review and update their content.
Why am I receiving this notification?
If you receive a notification asking you to Review your Profile, it means that some free-written content does not align with our Terms or Community Guidelines.
If you receive this notice, we recommend taking a moment to revisit our Community Guidelines and make any necessary updates to the following areas of your profile:
- Name
- Ethnicity Backstory
- Work
- Job Title
- Education
- Dating Intentions
- Relationship Types
- Date Ideas answers
- (Social Endorsements)
Receiving this notification will not affect the functionality of your account. These notifications are meant to encourage daters to pause and review their profile content and Hinge’s Terms and Community Guidelines, allowing them an opportunity to adjust their profile so they can remain on the platform and focus on finding compatible matches.
If content that doesn’t align with our policies remains unchanged, we may take further action in line with our Terms of Use.
