This article explains how Hinge’s waitlist works in regions where it applies, including the factors that may affect wait times, tips for getting in sooner, and the account functionality available to waitlisted daters.
An uneven mix of daters can make it harder to find what you’re looking for. To help balance the dating pool in certain regions, we may bring on new members gradually.
This means some daters who sign up for Hinge will start on a Waitlist. This lets us grow our community thoughtfully and aims to give each new member the best chance at making a genuine connection at the right time.
How Long Is the Wait?
There isn’t a single answer; wait times for non-subscribers depend on factors specific to their profile and local community and may range from a few hours to a few months or more. Two daters in different locations, or with different profiles, may experience very different wait times.
Your waitlist status can change at any time, so be sure to turn on push notifications and we’ll let you know the moment as you’re in.
A few things that can affect how long you wait:
- Your impact on community balance: how your profile and preferences add to a balanced mix of people in your area.
- Your profile quality: including the quality of your photos, prompts, and whether you've completed Selfie Verification.
- Your location: the size and balance of the Hinge community in your area.
How Can I Get In Sooner?
These steps may improve your position in the waitlist queue, but we can’t promise an exact timeline :
- Complete your profile: The more complete your profile, the better we can gauge who you’ll connect with.
- Add strong photos: Show your personality in your photos. Clear, natural shots where you're the focus tend to do best.
- Check your prompts: Thoughtful, specific answers give other daters something to respond to. Generic answers are harder to act on.
- Choose your preferences thoughtfully: they can affect your spot in the queue, plus the matches you’ll see once you’re on the app.
- Complete Selfie Verification: This helps show you look like your profile photos.
What Can I Do While I’m on the Waitlist?
While you wait, you can continue to log in, check your waitlist status, and edit your profile as usual. Some profile fields may be locked for editing, and you’ll need to contact us to modify them. Your profile will be re-scored based on the changes you make while waitlisted.
Changed your mind about waiting? You can delete your account via your account settings, and we will delete the associated data according to our Privacy Policy (linked below).
What happens after I get off the waitlist?
Once you’re off the waitlist, you’ll be able to view, like, and interact with other daters on Hinge.
One thing to know: certain profile changes can result in a dater being placed back on the waitlist after previously being admitted to Hinge. If this happens to you, any purchases you made on Hinge will be available once your new wait is over, or you may request a refund.
How is my data used in connection with the waitlist, and how can I exercise my rights?
Hinge uses waitlisted daters’ data to estimate how well their membership would contribute to the Hinge community at the time. Hinge+ and HingeX subscribers are not subject to this processing.
If you’re on the waitlist you can always request to access, correct, or delete your data, or opt out of Hinge’s processing of your data, by making a request.
